Hotels for Canada Day, Bluesfest, Winterlude and Other Festivals in Ottawa

Ottawa has a number of great festivals every year like the Ottawa Jazz Festival (late June), Ottawa Bluesfest (in July), and Winterlude (in February).  In addition, there is the big Canada Day party every July 1 where hundreds of thousands of people will gather in the area of Parliament Hill to celebrate Canada’s birthday.  For a list of Festivals in Ottawa see Ottawa Festivals.

All of the main festivals take place in downtown Ottawa (Bluefest is just on the west fringe of downtown).  There are a number of great hotels downtown that are close to all the action.  You can walk to any of the festivals from these hotels.

1.Fairmont Chateau Laurier

Located right beside Parliament Hill, this hotel is ideally located for Canada Day, the Ottawa Jazz Festival, and the Winterlude festival. It is also very close to other Ottawa landmarks such as the Rideau Canal, the National Gallery of Canada, the Byward Market, the National War Memorial, the U.S. Embassy, and the CF Rideau Centre.  This is a beautiful looking hotel designed in the French Gothic Châteauesque style to complement the adjacent Parliament buildings..  The hotel overlooks the Ottawa river and is adjacent to the Rideau Canal locks as they enter the Ottawa River.

The hotel is a solid 4 on the TripAdvisor rating scale.  The Fairmont recently completed a multi-million dollar guestroom revitalization. During the summer you can eat outside on the patio “La Terrasse” with a beautiful view of downtown Ottawa. To get to the Ottawa Bluesfest Festival, which is located beside the Canadian War Museum in LeBreton Flats, it would be a 25 minute walk from the Fairmont.

2. Westin Hotel Ottawa

The Westin is only about a block away from the Fairmont Chateau Laurier.  But the Westin has a view of the Rideau Canal whereas the Chateau Laurier has a view of the Ottawa river.  The hotel is right beside the new Ottawa Convention Centre called the Shaw Centre.  In terms of festivals, the Westin is close to everything and would be a great location for Canada Day, Ottawa Jazz Festival, or Winterlude.  It is also about the same distance from the Bluesfest as the Fairmont.

Less well known then the Westin and the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, the Albert at Bay Suite Hotel is also a great place to stay for Ottawa festivals.  The hotel is the #2 rated hotel in Ottawa by TripAdvisor.  It’s one and two bedroom suites are ideal for family vacations.
